Sparkle and Shine Home Learning Centre
We offer a unique service in Dubai and one we take very seriously. We run domestic training programs. They originally started out as training courses for maids but the response has been so phenomenal that we now deliver structured workshops for anyone interested in improving their home skills.
We have a fantastic team of trainers who are all professionals in their chosen field: teachers, nurses, midwives and chefs.
We believe that in any training program the learning should be structured with clear learning intentions. Our workshops build on the students’ existing knowledge in a controlled manner. Miracles cannot happen overnight which is why we offer the half day workshops. As anyone who has been involved in a professional development training program knows, students ‘switch off’ after a couple of hours. Therefore, if a client comes to us wanting training for her maid we recommend they join one or two classes first, let that information be reinforced in the home and then return for more classes. The workshops are like building blocks which grow with time, patience and care.
Translators are available on all the courses and course handbooks are given to the students at each workshop. We encourage the students to ask lots of questions and make notes during the half day workshops. We break half way through for a few minutes to give the students enough time for reflection. The workshops are practical and interactive; the student involvement allows the trainer to assess the students’ abilities in a relaxed way. It is also a good way to build confidence and trust because we create a positive learning atmosphere.
As a primary teacher and English language teacher, Claire Peirson is responsible for overseeing and developing the syllabus for each workshop and course. However, the expertise of each of our qualified trainers is used to fine tune the learning intentions. A lot of thought goes into the training and we are constantly evaluating ourselves and each other to ensure we all reach each student’s learning potential. All of our trainers have to complete a ‘teaching students of other languages’ course. |
